MA Police Accreditation

The Wenham Police Department is Accredited by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC). To become an Accredited organization includes a rigorous independent review and evaluation  by MPAC, of the department’s 257 mandatory standards and 125 optional standards.

The receive accreditation the Department MUST meet all applicable mandatory standards, as well as, 55 percent of option standards.

The accreditation process is aimed at providing accountability among agency personnel and ensuring policies are applied evenhandedly; providing a statewide norm against which agencies can judge their performance; providing a basis to correct deficiencies before they become public problems; providing independent evaluation of agency operations; enhancing the reputation of an agency, increasing public confidence; and minimizing insurance costs and agency liability.

Chief Kevin DiNapoli is pleased to announce that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, to begin examining various aspects of the Wenham Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations, and facilities.

Verification by the Assessment Team that the Wenham Police Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain state Accreditation – a self- initialed evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession.

The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 274 mandatory standards, as well as 125 optional standards. In order to achieve accreditation status, the Wenham Police Department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 60% of the optional standards.
