Chief Carnes began his career as a patrol officer with the Wenham Police Department in 1973 and served as the department’s Chief for 11 years.
Chief Carnes left Wenham Police in 1995 to become the Chief of Police of the Yarmouth Police Department. He retired from Yarmouth Police in 2008.
After his retirement from Yarmouth, he became Chief of Police and Director of Campus Safety at Stonehill College in Easton from 2008-2019.
Services will be down the Cape, where he had been living since 1995.
The Wenham Police Department plans to hold a memorial service in Wenham for Chief Carnes at a later date.
