Wenham Police Holding Drug Take Back Day on Saturday

WHAT:

The Wenham Police Department is holding a prescription drug take-back program. A police officer will be standing by the police station to accept all unwanted, unused, and unneeded prescription drugs in order to dispose of them in a responsible manner. The event is 100 percent free and annoymous — no questions asked.

WHEN:

Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE:

Wenham Police Headquarters. 1 Friend Court, Wenham, MA 01984.

WHY:

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines — flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash — both pose potential environmental, safety, and health hazards.
