The Wenham Police conducts first ever Women’s Self-Defense Course.

Last week the Wenham Police Department conducted its first ever Women’s Self-Defense Course at the Academy at Penguin Hall. Great job to Officer Princi and all of the participants!

The mission of the Wenham Police Department’s Women’s Self-Defense Course, is to establish an accessible, constantly improving experience.  The course aims to teach women how to predict, identify, prevent and avoid violence.  Providing educational opportunities for women to create a safer future for themselves.  In doing this, we challenge these women to evolve into an existence where violence is not an acceptable part of daily life.  The training works on a building block format, with simulation techniques and instruction.

The Women’s Self-Defense Course introduces women to an array of subjects that concern their personal safety, from sexual assaults to potentially abusive partners.  Each block looks at a separate issue of self-protection and personal safety.  At the end of the program, women should be empowered to predict, identify and avoid violent situation and individuals who design and orchestrate them.

The program is designed for the average person, with no previous experience in physical skills training.  It is common for mothers and daughters, or friends, to attend this program together.  This develops and enhances their options of self-defense and a great bonding experience.  Officer Princi has taught this course to over 100 women, including residents of the Town of Mashpee, MA and members of the United States Air Force.
