Wenham Police Department Launches New Website

Plus: Twitter, Facebook, and Regional Communications Efforts

WENHAM — Police Chief Thomas Perkins is pleased to report that the Wenham Police Department has launched a new website and has launched several new public information initiatives.

“In order to be successful as a public safety agency, the Wenham Police Department must have the trust of its residents and business owners,” Chief Perkins said. “That is why we have made a concerted effort over the past several months to implement new public information methods that are current and varied enough to reach everyone in town when there is news or an emergency.”

The new website, WenhamPD.com launched in late September and has gone through several rounds of testing. It is meant to be a very simple, easy to read, and easy to navigate online news portal.

The is powered by the WordPress Genesis framework, making it easy for officers to update and search engine friendly. At the center are news articles, press releases, and other items, in chronological format. The site also has an email form, where anyone can submit an email question, tip, or suggestion to the Wenham Police Department Command Staff. The email form makes the Name, Email Address, and Phone Number fields optional, allowing the sending to submit information to the department 100 percent anonymously.

The website also contains a number of downloadable police forms, safety resources, and a complete department roster, with contact information for each member of the department.

Additionally, Wenham Police Captain Jeffrey Tobey recently completed a Social Media for Law Enforcement Training Course offered by John Guilfoil Public Relations LLC. Captain Tobey has become the department’s social media liaison, and will be updating Wenham PD’s new Twitter and Facebook pages.

You can Follow @WenhamPolice on Twitter and Like the Wenham Police Department on Facebook to receive updates and read news from the department.

All three of these systems are integrated. Whenever the website is updated with news or a press release, it will be automatically be pushed out to Twitter and Facebook so that a single, consistent message is being sent out across all platforms.

While these tools will be used to broadcast news and information, even urgent or emergency information, they are not the only solution, and no single platform reaches 100 percent of the community. That is why the Wenham Police Department is also partnering with Essex County Sheriff Frank G. Cousins and the Essex County Regional Emergency Communications Center to implement an emergency notification system that will alert residents and business owners by text message, telephone, and email when there is an emergency in Wenham.

More details on this system will be announced soon!
